The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police is likely to question actress Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia, and producer Ekta Kapoor regarding payments they received from Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a now-defunct company run by Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra. This development arises amidst an ongoing investigation into an alleged fraud case of ₹60 crore involving the celebrity couple.
The case was registered following a complaint by businessman Deepak Kothari, a director at Lotus Capital Finance Services, a non-banking financial company. Kothari alleged that Shetty, Kundra, and others defrauded him in a loan-cum-investment deal related to Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. Earlier this month, lookout circulars (LOCs) were issued against Shetty and Kundra.
Raj Kundra was questioned by the EOW for over five hours, and his statement was recorded. According to reports, Kundra claimed that a portion of the money was paid to Bipasha Basu and Neha Dhupia as fees. Investigators have also tracked direct transfers of nearly ₹25 crore to accounts linked to Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia, and Balaji Entertainment.
The EOW is investigating the cash flow and looking into allegations of misuse of funds. They are also seeking video CDs and hard disks of celebrities who appeared on Best Deal TV. Kundra stated that these materials were seized by the Crime Branch's Property Cell during the investigation of a pornography case.
While Kundra has been questioned, Shilpa Shetty has not yet been summoned, as the EOW is still gathering evidence. The police are also planning to examine CDs and hard disks from the Crime Branch's property cell to further the investigation.
Raj Kundra has maintained that he is cooperating with authorities in every phase of the investigation. Despite the ongoing legal battle, both Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have shared cryptic messages on social media about life and attitude.
The EOW's investigation is expected to continue, with summons likely to be issued to other individuals connected to the case in the coming days. The focus will be on determining if any misappropriation of funds occurred and the extent to which various parties were involved.
