Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully transformed the vision of "garibi hatao" (eradicate poverty) into a tangible reality, bringing 25 crore people out of poverty in the last decade. Shah made this statement while addressing a gathering at an event in Ahmedabad.
Shah emphasized that previous governments had only pursued the idea of a welfare state in a fragmented manner before 2014. He stated that PM Modi understood that India's progress was impossible if a large portion of its population remained in poverty. According to Shah, the Prime Minister recognized the need to address the needs of the 60 crore marginalized people to ensure India's overall development.
Shah highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the Modi government that have contributed to lifting people out of poverty. These include providing houses, toilets, electricity, LPG gas connections, and 5 kg of free food grains to the poor. Additionally, the government has been bearing medical expenses up to Rs 5 lakh for those in need. Farmers across the country are also receiving Rs 6,000 in their bank accounts.
Shah pointed out that since 2014, PM Modi has ensured basic amenities for 60 crore citizens, effectively turning the welfare state envisioned by the Constitution's framers into a reality. He also lauded the Prime Minister's pledge to ensure that every household has a toilet, a home, and a gas cylinder. Furthermore, he emphasized that PM Modi ensured that no one goes to bed hungry by providing free grains to a large population every month, a feat unparalleled globally.
The Home Minister acknowledged that such significant progress cannot be achieved by the government alone. He urged trusts, individuals, and service organizations to unite and collaborate to eradicate poverty swiftly. He also noted Gujarat's contribution, with educational institutions and gurukuls working together towards poverty eradication.
Shah has also credited PM Modi for his decisive actions in national security, including securing borders, conducting surgical strikes, and abrogating Article 370, which granted special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir. He criticized Congress for delaying the Ram Mandir issue, while emphasizing that the temple has now been built and is celebrated globally.
Shah also noted India's economic transformation under Modi's leadership, rising from the 11th to the 4th largest global economy, with aspirations to become the third-largest by 2027. He attributed this growth to Modi's dedication and welfare initiatives.
