The love story of director Mohit Suri and actress Udita Goswami is one that seems straight out of a Bollywood film. It's a tale of a fleeting glance, a manifested destiny, and a love that blossomed over time, eventually leading to marriage.
Mohit Suri, the director known for romantic movies such as "Zeher", "Kalyug", "Aashiqui 2", and "Ek Villain", recently shared how he "manifested" his marriage with Udita. He recalled seeing Udita on a hoarding for her debut film, "Paap," outside Amar Juice Centre in Mumbai. At that time, Suri was an assistant director. He turned to his friend, Pooja Bhatt, the director of "Paap," and jokingly declared that he would marry her someday.
As fate would have it, Pooja Bhatt later introduced Mohit to Udita. According to Suri, Bhatt said something along the lines of, "This is Mohit. He wants to be a director and marry you". Suri admitted the introduction was quite embarrassing at the time.
Udita, who hails from Assam, had come to Mumbai to pursue a career in Hindi cinema. She gained the confidence to try her luck in Bollywood after enrolling in the School of Arts and Fashion Technology in Dehradun. Her first film was "Paap". Mohit's cousin, Pooja Bhatt, launched Udita in Bollywood with the 2003 film.
Their love story truly began during the making of the 2005 film "Zeher," which was Mohit's directorial debut and Udita's second film. Working together on the film allowed them to connect and become friends.
Mohit and Udita's relationship spanned several years and faced its share of challenges. They dated for seven years before tying the knot. There was a period around 2008 and 2009 where they were in an on-again, off-again relationship due to some differences. However, their love for each other persevered, and they reconciled in 2010.
Reportedly, Mohit had proposed to Udita four years prior to their marriage, but she wasn't ready at the time. She revealed that he wasn't ready either. When he proposed again, he showed his commitment by tattooing her name on his ring finger and involving his family.
Mohit Suri and Udita Goswami married in a traditional Punjabi wedding at the Hare Rama Hare Krishna temple on January 29, 2013. The wedding was attended by close friends and family, including actor Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez. The bride wore a traditional red lehenga choli with detailed embroidery, while the groom wore a white kurta-pyjama with a black jacket. A reception was held at the Mahalakshmi Race Course on January 31.
Mohit described himself as a hopeless romantic. He admitted that even after many years together, Udita's praise makes him happy, and her silence affects him deeply. He also acknowledged that Udita sometimes tells him to save his emotions for his films.
Udita is supportive of Mohit's passion for filmmaking. She took care of all the wedding preparations so that he could focus on completing one of his films. Mohit said that Udita knows that if he came to the wedding without completing the film, he would be very depressed.
The couple has two children: a daughter named Devi, born in 2015, and a son named Karrma, born in 2018. Udita is the sister-in-law of actors Pooja Bhatt, Alia Bhatt, and Emraan Hashmi.
Suri's recent film, "Saiyaara," seems to mirror his own love story with Udita. The film includes a proposal rejection scene, which may be inspired by Suri's experience.
Udita prefers to stay out of the creative process while Mohit is making a film. She only watches the film before its release and gives her honest feedback. Mohit values her genuine reaction more than any industry opinion.
