Lionel Messi propelled Inter Miami to a thrilling 3-2 victory over D.C. United with a stellar performance, bagging a brace and providing an assist. The Argentinian superstar's contributions on Saturday night edged Inter Miami closer to a coveted MLS Cup playoff berth.

The match, held at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, saw Messi involved in all three of Inter Miami's goals. In the 35th minute, Messi showcased his playmaking ability by threading a precise through ball to Tadeo Allende, who slotted it past D.C. United goalkeeper Luis Barraza to open the scoring.

D.C. United responded in the 53rd minute when Christian Benteke found the net, leveling the score. However, Messi restored Miami's lead in the 66th minute, finishing a well-placed pass from Jordi Alba. The Argentinian maestro then sealed the victory in the 85th minute, dribbling past multiple defenders before curling a left-footed shot past Barraza. Jacob Murrell scored in stoppage time for DC United, but it was not enough to overcome Inter Miami. The match concluded with a 3-2 score.

With these two goals, Messi now leads the race for the Golden Boot award with 22 goals this season, surpassing Sam Surridge of Nashville SC by one goal. This game marked Messi's seventh brace of the campaign. He also has 12 assists this season, tying for fourth-most in the league. Overall for Inter Miami, Messi has 41 goals and 21 assists in 46 appearances.

Inter Miami's coach, Javier Mascherano, praised Messi's impact, stating, "It was another ordinary night for him, which is totally extraordinary for any other football player". He further highlighted Messi's ability to not only score but also to elevate the team's performance and carry them when needed.

Goalkeeper Óscar Ustari made four saves for Inter Miami. Luis Barraza saved four shots for D.C. United.

Following this win, Inter Miami is fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 15-6-7. They will travel to play fourth-place New York City FC at Citi Field on Wednesday. D.C. United, with a record of 5-16-10, will host the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
