The highly anticipated sequel to the 2007 film Awarapan, titled Awarapan 2, is reportedly beginning its shoot this week. Emraan Hashmi will reprise his role as Shivam Pandit, and Disha Patani has been cast as the female lead. Nitin Kakkar, known for directing films like Jawaani Jaaneman, Filmistaan, and Notebook, will direct the film.
The original Awarapan was directed by Mohit Suri and was lauded for its intense emotional love story and music. The film gained a cult following thanks to songs like "Toh Phir Aao", "Mahi", and "Tera Mera Rishta".
Awarapan 2 is expected to retain the spirit of the original while amplifying the romance and emotional stakes. The sequel will feature a different love story set against the backdrop of the underworld, similar to the first film. Disha Patani was reportedly impressed by the script's emotional arc and immediately agreed to join the cast. Her character details are currently under wraps.
Filming is scheduled to take place from late September 2025 to January 2026. More than half of the movie will be filmed in Bangkok, Thailand, for a month-long schedule. Makers are aiming for a grand theatrical release in Summer 2026, potentially on April 3, 2026.
The music of Awarapan 2 is expected to be a highlight, with the possibility of some old melodies returning in a new form, as well as new soulful tracks.
