The Mukerji family's North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja commenced its 2025 celebrations on Panchami, marked by an inauguration led by cousins Kajol and Rani Mukerji. The event, held in Mumbai, is one of the city's oldest and most attended Durga Puja celebrations. This year’s festivities held additional emotional weight for filmmaker Ayan Mukerji, as it was his first Durga Puja without his father, Debu Mukerji, who passed away earlier this year and was a key organizer of the annual Puja.

Kajol, Rani, and other family members, including Tanishaa Mukerji and Sharbani Mukherji, were present at the event. The cousins came together to unveil the idol of Goddess Durga at the North Bombay Durga Puja Pandal. The family was dressed in traditional attire for the occasion. Kajol wore a silk saree with a red blouse, while Rani chose a white saree with a black and red floral border. Ayan Mukerji wore a simple white kurta-pyjama.

In a touching moment, Kajol, Rani, Tanishaa, and Sharbani were seen embracing each other with tears in their eyes, as they remembered Deb Mukherjee. Kajol also shared a heartfelt hug with Ayan Mukerji, signifying the family's closeness and support during the emotional time.

Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava, is a Hindu festival that celebrates Goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura. According to Hindu mythology, the Goddess visits her earthly home to bless her devotees during this time. This year, the five-day celebration began on September 28 (Shashthi) and will conclude on October 2 (Vijayadashami).
