Emraan Hashmi starts filming 'Awarapan 2'; sequel release date announced, continuing the intense drama.

Emraan Hashmi has officially commenced shooting for 'Awarapan 2' in Bangkok. The film, a sequel to the 2007 action crime film 'Awarapan', is slated to release on April 3, 2026.

The announcement of 'Awarapan 2' follows weeks of speculation, which began after Hashmi shared an animated clip featuring his 'Awarapan' character, accompanied by the song "Toh Phir Aao". This cryptic post ignited anticipation among fans, who have eagerly awaited confirmation of a sequel.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Films, 'Awarapan 2' will see Emraan Hashmi reprising his role as Shivam Pandit. Joining him is Disha Patani, who will play the female lead. The film's script is written by Bilal Siddiqui.

The first schedule of the film is currently underway in Bangkok, with over 50% of the movie expected to be filmed there during this month-long stint. The production team aims to capture the essence of the story by extensively shooting at real locations within Bangkok. The makers are aiming to wrap up the filming by January 2026 to meet the already announced release date.

The original 'Awarapan', directed by Mohit Suri, was an uncredited remake of the South Korean film 'A Bittersweet Life'. Despite receiving positive reviews, it didn't fare well commercially upon its release. However, over time, it gained a cult following and is now considered one of Hashmi's best performances. The film also starred Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana. The film's music, composed by Pritam, and its emotional soundtrack, particularly the song "Tera Mera Rishta", have contributed significantly to its lasting appeal.

In the original film, Hashmi played Shivam Pandit, a gangster haunted by his past. He works for Bharat Malik, a crime lord, and is tasked with watching over Malik's mistress, Reema. Shivam, however, defies his boss and attempts to rescue Reema.

Emraan Hashmi said that the script for 'Awarapan 2' has been in development for over a year. He also noted the original film's enduring popularity on various platforms, highlighting its impact beyond its initial theatrical release.

With 'Awarapan 2', Emraan Hashmi and Vishesh Films are looking to recreate the magic of their previous collaborations, such as 'Jannat', 'Murder', 'Raaz', and 'Gangster'. Fans are eagerly anticipating the next chapter in Shivam's intense and emotional journey.
