The much-awaited sequel, Awarapan 2, starring Emraan Hashmi, has officially commenced filming. The film, a follow-up to the 2007 cult classic Awarapan, began its first shooting schedule in Bangkok. The film is slated to release on April 3, 2026.
Awarapan 2 is directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui. Vishesh Bhatt is producing the film under the Vishesh Films banner. The makers are aiming to create the same magic as the original, balancing intense emotions with engaging visuals.
The original Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, was praised for its storyline, soulful music, and Hashmi's performance. Although it didn't perform well at the box office initially, it gained a loyal audience over the years. The film's music, including songs like "Toh Phir Aao" and "Tera Mera Rishta," remains popular. The sequel was greenlit after years of fan requests.
Awarapan 2 promises a mix of action, emotional storytelling, and a memorable soundtrack, similar to Vishesh Films' previous collaborations with Emraan Hashmi, such as Murder, Raaz, Jannat, and Gangster.
Besides Emraan Hashmi, Awarapan 2 also features Disha Patani in a lead role. Filming in Bangkok is expected to give the movie an international appeal.
Emraan Hashmi and Vishesh Bhatt announced the commencement of the project on social media. Vishesh Films also shared a post of the mahurat shot on Instagram.
Awarapan (2007) revolved around Shivam (Emraan Hashmi), a heartbroken lover serving a gangster boss in Hong Kong. Malik asks Shivam to keep an eye on his young mistress Reema, a victim of human trafficking.
Several reviews of Awarapan (2007) highlight Emraan Hashmi's performance and the film's music. One reviewer noted that Emraan Hashmi "delivers an incredible performance; you can clearly see his struggles and inner pain just through his eyes". Another praised the dialogues and background score. Some critics felt the movie lacked a strong script, but praised the direction and Emraan Hashmi's acting.
Emraan Hashmi has several other upcoming projects, including Ground Zero, Haq, G2, and Gunmaaster G9. Ground Zero, an action thriller where he plays an army officer, is slated to release on April 25, 2025. Haq, also starring Yami Gautam, is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025.
