Lee Jung-jae, the South Korean actor who gained global recognition for his role as Seong Gi-hun (Player 456) in the hit Netflix series Squid Game, has a special message for his Indian fans. With the recent release of Squid Game's third and final season, Lee Jung-jae expressed his gratitude for the immense love and support he has received from Indian audiences.
In a recent interview, Lee Jung-jae conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to his Indian fans, acknowledging the show's roaring success in India. He understands that Squid Game has resonated deeply with viewers in India, and he wanted to express his sincere thanks for their unwavering support.
Beyond expressing his gratitude, Lee Jung-jae also revealed his keen interest in potentially working in Bollywood. When asked about the possibility of collaborating with Indian filmmakers, he responded enthusiastically, "I would love to be a part of a Bollywood film if I was given the opportunity". He further praised the diversity and vibrancy of Indian cinema and expressed curiosity about the storytelling styles unique to Bollywood. This statement has ignited excitement among fans, who are eager to see potential collaborations between Korean and Indian cinema.
Reflecting on his return to the set for the third season of Squid Game, Lee Jung-jae shared his emotional experience. "It was a day of mixed feelings when I put on that green tracksuit with my number 456 on it and I stepped onto the set again for the first time," he said. "I also felt the same way when I put back on the red haired wig. I've worked in this industry for quite a long time but I have never felt a rush of emotions like the way I experienced on the day when I came back to the sets of Squid Game," he added.
Lee Jung-jae also shared his thoughts on why Squid Game achieved such widespread success. He believes that the show's themes of economic struggle and social inequality resonated with viewers, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. "I did not expect this kind of success," he admitted. "I think it's about timing. When Squid Game season one was released, not only were we mid-pandemic, but also I think it was the beginning of a lot of global economic struggle, unfortunately. And so many people were struggling in real life, which has been reflected in the characters in Squid Game. So I think the overall timing of the release of the show and the things that were happening around the world and how much of that was reflected in the characters was partly what led to its huge success".
Squid Game premiered in 2021 and quickly became a global phenomenon. The series received 17 Emmy nominations for its first season, winning six awards, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Lee Jung-jae. The series' final season has broken records, garnering 60.1 million views within the first three days of release.
