The controversy began when Amaal Mallik, during a conversation on Bigg Boss 19, alleged that Awez Darbar and his girlfriend, Nagma Mirajkar, charge ₹20 lakh for promoting his songs through reels and only maintain a cordial relationship with him because he brings them business. These remarks sparked immediate backlash from Awez and Nagma's family members. Nagma's brother, Mohammed Ali Mirajkar, criticized Amaal for belittling their hard work and questioning their intentions, emphasizing that the money they earn is for their work, not a gift. Awez's sisters, Moonzarin and Anam Darbar, also expressed their disappointment.
Awez Darbar, after his eviction from Bigg Boss 19, addressed these claims in an exclusive interview. Mere samne wo itna dosti yaari karta tha aur peeche ye jo baat karta hai yeh mujhe pata nahi tha”.
