After nearly 20 years of marriage, Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from Keith Urban. The actress filed the divorce papers on Monday in Davidson County Circuit Court in Nashville, Tennessee, where the couple resides. Kidman, 58, cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split from Urban, 57.
Kidman and Urban began dating in 2005 and married in June 2006 in Australia. They share two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
According to court documents, Kidman is requesting to be named the primary residential parent of their two minor children. She has requested the court approve a parenting plan that would allocate 306 days per year with her and 59 days each year with Urban. The documents also indicate that both Kidman and Urban have signed a marital dissolution agreement that includes a co-parenting arrangement. As part of the agreement, both are required to attend a parent education class within 60 days. Kidman is seeking an "absolute divorce" at the final hearing.
News of the separation comes just three months after Kidman celebrated the couple's 19th wedding anniversary with an Instagram post.
A source told People that Kidman "didn't want this" divorce and had been "fighting to save the marriage". The source added that Kidman's sister, Antonia, and the entire Kidman family are supporting her.
Representatives for Kidman and Urban have not yet responded to requests for comment.
