Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana: Part One Editing Finished, 300 Days of VFX Work Commences for Grand Visuals

The final edit of Ramayana: Part One, starring Ranbir Kapoor, has been completed, and the filmmakers are now dedicating approximately 300 days to visual effects (VFX). Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, this cinematic adaptation of the epic Ramayana is highly anticipated. The film features a stellar cast, including Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol will portray Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey will play Lakshmana.

According to sources, filming for Ramayana: Part One wrapped up in June 2025, after which director Nitesh Tiwari finalized the edit. The team has reportedly frozen the runtime and finalized the saga's lineup. The first round of VFX work is also complete, and the team has moved on to the final edit for an extended post-production period.

The makers intend to lock the final cut of Ramayana: Part One by Summer 2026, aiming for a Diwali release. A comprehensive marketing strategy is planned, with promotional materials being released regularly throughout the year, as Ramayana is considered one of the biggest Indian films of the year.

Namit Malhotra and his team are investing over 300 working days solely on VFX. The film is being mounted on an unheard-of budget to provide an uncompromised cinematic experience to the audience. The visual grandeur of ancient India is being reimagined by renowned production designers Ravi Bansal (Dune: Part Two, Aladdin) and Ramsey Avery (Captain America, Tomorrowland). The action sequences are designed by Mad Max stunt director Guy Norris.

Interestingly, even before the release of Ramayana: Part One, about 75 percent of the post-production work on Ramayana: Part Two is expected to be completed. Shooting for the second installment is also expected to conclude by mid-2026, followed by the post-production phase.

Ranbir Kapoor has also invested in the VFX company DNEG, which is handling the visual effects for Ramayana. DNEG is a global VFX giant behind Oscar-winning films like Tenet, Dune: Part Two, and Oppenheimer. The visual effects are contributing to the film's massive budget, which is estimated to be ₹4000 crore across the two parts.

Ramayana: Part One is slated for release in 2026, with Part Two following in 2027. The film marks the first collaboration between Oscar-winning music legends Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
