Salman Khan is gearing up to commence the second schedule for his upcoming film, "Battle of Galwan," on October 10. The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, is a war drama inspired by the Galwan Valley clash in June 2020 between Indian and Chinese soldiers.
Khan recently wrapped up a demanding 45-day schedule in Ladakh, where he shot for 15 days straight. The shoot took place in sub-10 degree temperatures with low oxygen levels and extreme weather conditions. Despite battling physical injuries, Khan persevered to authentically portray his character.
"Battle of Galwan" aims to highlight the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. The film is based on the book "India's Most Fearless," which features true stories of courage displayed by Indian soldiers. Khan will be playing the role of Colonel B Santosh Babu, the officer who led Indian troops during the confrontation.
The second schedule is crucial as the director plans to capture not only action sequences but also the emotional moments of the film. While a significant portion of the film has been shot at real locations, some of the major action sequences will be filmed on a large set constructed in Mumbai with actors portraying army officials. The makers are aiming to wrap up shooting by the end of 2025, with a release planned for 2026.
Apoorva Lakhia confirmed that filming is underway and shared a glimpse from the set on social media. A behind-the-scenes photo of Khan in character, against a mountainous backdrop, also went viral. The film also stars Chitrangda Singh, Zeyn Shaw, Ankur Bhatia, and Harshil Shah.
The film depicts the events of June 15, 2020, when Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed in the Galwan Valley, a strategically important region along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Due to prior agreements, firearms were not used, and the conflict involved hand-to-hand combat using makeshift weapons. The film is being positioned as a cinematic tribute to the valor of India's armed forces.
