Nava Raipur's eco-friendly vision: Chhattisgarh capital eyes tech, tourism, and semiconductor industries for growth.

Nava Raipur, officially known as Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, is emerging as a hub for technology, tourism, and the semiconductor industry, solidifying its position as Chhattisgarh's green capital. The city is strategically located about 17 km south-east of Raipur, connected by a six-lane expressway. It is planned to replace Raipur as the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

Tech Focus: Semiconductor Manufacturing and IT Initiatives

Nava Raipur is making significant strides in the technology sector, particularly in semiconductor manufacturing. Chennai-based Polymatech Electronics is setting up a semiconductor plant with an investment of ₹1,143 crore to produce Gallium Nitride (GaN) chips. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai laid the foundation stone for the unit in April 2025. The plant aims to manufacture 10 billion chips annually by 2030 and is expected to generate employment opportunities in the state. These chips are crucial for enabling 5G and 6G technologies, high-performance laptops, defense technologies, data analytics, and cutting-edge power electronics. The facility will span 150,000 square feet in Sector-5 of Nava Raipur. The government swiftly allotted the land through a tender process by the Nava Raipur Development Authority. The state government is offering policy support, tax incentives, infrastructure development, and special facilities to the electronics and semiconductor sector under the Make in India and Digital India campaigns.

In August 2025, the Chhattisgarh cabinet approved the allocation of 90 acres of land in Nava Raipur for IT industries at concessional rates. This move is expected to attract IT investments, enhance infrastructure, and create job opportunities for local youth. The city is also envisioned as an AI Data Centre and Semiconductor Zone.

Boosting Tourism with Cultural and Eco-Friendly Projects

Nava Raipur is also focusing on tourism to diversify its economy. The government has identified fourteen land parcels covering 163 acres for tourism-related projects, including a 93-acre site in Mana, Raipur, reserved for a Film City and Convention Centre. The Government of India has sanctioned ₹95.79 crore for the Film City and ₹51.87 crore for the Convention Centre. These projects aim to offer excellent facilities for filmmaking and conventions, further boosting the economy. Tourism officials project private investment in the hospitality sector could reach ₹150–200 crore, generating over 5,000 jobs in the next five years.

The city is also promoting eco-tourism by developing attractions around existing dams like Nisda, Samoda, and Dudhawa, bringing luxury camping and water sports to eco-tourists. The Ghungutta Tree House in Korea and Sarna Ethnic Resort in Jashpur showcase the blending of local culture with high-end experiences.

Green Capital: Sustainable Planning and Infrastructure

Nava Raipur is designed as a greenfield city with a focus on sustainability. The Nava Raipur Atal Nagar Vikas Pradhikaran (NRANVP) has allocated 27% of its land to green cover, lakes, and open spaces, ensuring the city remains livable and climate-resilient. A 10MW solar project is expected to save ₹14.5 crore annually in electricity bills. The city's infrastructure is planned using state-of-the-art technology and careful use of natural resources. It aims to be a self-sustainable financing model. The city is well-connected through a dedicated OFC network, laid across 130 km, serving as the backbone for future services and expansion.

Connectivity and Future Development

Nava Raipur is situated 15 km from Raipur Airport and is connected by a six-lane expressway. A metro-lite project linking Raipur, Nava Raipur, and Durg-Bhilai is under planning, with ₹5 crore allocated for feasibility studies. In July 2025, the state announced a State Capital Region Authority to integrate Raipur, Durg, Bhilai, and Nava Raipur into a unified urban cluster. The government is also working on expanding rail connectivity, with plans to connect the upcoming Parmalkasa-Kharsiya railway line to Nava Raipur.

Nava Raipur is envisioning itself as more than just a capital city, aiming to integrate governance, green living, global industries, and cultural tourism. The city has been built from the ground up with a comprehensive master plan, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Developed India @2047' vision.
