Mumbai Shoe Showroom Fire Near Crawford Market: Significant Damage, No Injuries Reported

A major fire erupted at a shoe showroom near Crawford Market in South Mumbai late Sunday night, but there have been no reports of any injuries. The fire broke out in the Dwarkadas Building on Lokmanya Tilak Road, a location close to the Police Commissioner's office.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the alert at 10:26 PM, and quickly dispatched fire tenders to the scene. Initially classified as a Level-1 fire, the situation escalated to Level-2 by 10:44 PM as smoke began to affect adjacent shops. According to a municipal official, the fire was contained to the shoe showroom on the ground floor of the four-story building.

Approximately twelve fire engines and six jumbo tankers, along with an ambulance and other firefighting equipment, were deployed to combat the blaze. Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the showroom, which was stocked with a large quantity of footwear. Visuals circulating on social media showed the fire engulfing the showroom as firefighters worked to control the flames.

The fire was confined to the materials stored inside the shoe showroom on the ground floor of the building. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, initial claims suggest a short circuit may have been responsible. BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) undertaking officials and police personnel were also present at the scene to assist in the firefighting and control efforts.

The situation was brought under control, preventing any injuries or casualties. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage to the showroom and surrounding areas.
