Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Select: India Launch, Vega OS, Price, and Enhanced Features Overview

Amazon has launched the Fire TV Stick 4K Select in India, adding a new, more affordable option to its 4K streaming device lineup. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select is priced at Rs 5,499 and is available across online and offline platforms, including Amazon, Blinkit, Croma, Vijay Sales, and Reliance Retail.

Features and Specifications

The Fire TV Stick 4K Select supports 4K Ultra HD streaming with HDR10+. It is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, which Amazon claims is the fastest among all Fire TV Sticks in India. The device comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It also supports HDMI with HDCP 2.2, ensuring compatibility with older TVs for 4K streaming.

Vega OS

A key highlight of the Fire TV Stick 4K Select is that it's the first Amazon device in India to run on the new Vega Operating System (OS). Amazon says the Vega OS is designed to offer faster app launches, a smoother interface, and better overall responsiveness. Vega OS is Linux-based, which marks a shift in Amazon's software strategy as they plan to phase out Fire OS in future products.

Fire TV Ambient Experience

The Fire TV Stick 4K Select also introduces the Fire TV Ambient Experience to India. This feature allows users to transform their TVs into digital art displays, showcasing over 2,000 works of art and photography when the TV is idle. The Ambient Experience can be activated through the Alexa button or via voice command.

Alexa Voice Remote and Content Access

The Fire TV Stick 4K Select comes with the Alexa Voice Remote, enabling voice-based playback controls, app switching, and volume adjustments. The remote can also manage compatible smart home devices like lights, air conditioners, and fans. Users can access content from popular streaming platforms like Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, YouTube, and Zee5, as well as ad-supported and live content.

Amazon's 4K Lineup

With the launch of the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, Amazon's 4K portfolio in India now includes three models: the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (previously known as Fire TV Stick 4K), and the Fire TV Cube. This expansion aims to cater to a wider range of consumers with varying streaming needs and budgets.

Potential Drawbacks

The Fire TV Stick 4K Select lacks Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support. The device has limited app sideloading capabilities.
