NHAI Eases FASTag KYC Completion: Streamlining the Process for Enhanced User Experience and Improved Efficiency.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken steps to simplify the "Know Your Vehicle" (KYV) process for FASTag users, following reports of vehicle owners facing difficulties in completing the procedure. The revised guidelines aim to streamline the process and ensure continued service for FASTag users.

Under the new guidelines, providing side photographs of cars, jeeps, or vans will no longer be mandatory. Users will only be required to upload a front picture showing the vehicle's number plate and FASTag. Additionally, the system will be updated to automatically retrieve Registration Certificate (RC) details from the Vahan database when a user enters the vehicle, chassis, or mobile number. If multiple vehicles are registered under a single mobile number, users will be able to select the specific vehicle for which they want to complete the KYV process.

FASTags issued before the implementation of the KYV policy on June 20, 2024, will remain active to ensure uninterrupted services, unless complaints of misuse or loose tags are received. Issuing banks will also send SMS reminders to users, prompting them to complete the KYV process. In cases where users encounter difficulties uploading the necessary documents, the issuing bank will proactively reach out to offer assistance before any disconnection occurs. Customers can also register complaints or seek assistance by calling the NHAI helpline number 1033.

NHAI's move to simplify the KYV process comes in response to reports of multiple FASTags being issued for single vehicles and instances of FASTags being distributed without completing the mandatory KYC process, which violates Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulations. NHAI is encouraging FASTag users to complete their KYC by updating relevant information with their respective issuing banks. FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC may face deactivation or blacklisting. The "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative aims to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to one vehicle.

The implementation of the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative is expected to improve the efficiency of toll operations and provide seamless journeys for national highway users. The new FASTag rules in 2024 seek to enhance the efficiency and reliability of toll payments across India's highways. These rules ensure a smoother, more secure toll collection system through mandatory KYC updates, replacement of older FASTags, linking vehicle information, and improved data verification. The integration of automatic recharges and mandatory mobile number linkage further simplifies the user experience.
