Kharge's RSS Ban Call Meets Resistance: Karti Chidambaram Highlights Practical Challenges and Current Impossibility.

The political landscape in Karnataka is witnessing a heated debate following Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge's call for a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities on government premises, including schools, colleges, and public grounds. This demand has been met with both support and strong opposition, with Karti Chidambaram expressing reservations about its feasibility in the current environment.

Kharge, the IT-BT and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urging the government to prohibit RSS programs on government properties, alleging that the organization promotes divisive ideologies among the youth through its 'shakhas'. He argued that these activities could potentially harm the integrity of the country and the Constitution. Kharge has also questioned why the RSS has not registered with any Indian state government and the source of the organization's funding. Following his call for a ban, Kharge reported receiving threat calls and abusive messages, which he suspects are from RSS and BJP functionaries. He stated that these threats would not deter him from advocating for accountability and transparency regarding RSS activities.

In response to Kharge's letter, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed the Chief Secretary to study the steps taken by Tamil Nadu to restrict similar activities.

However, not everyone is on board with the idea of a ban. Karti Chidambaram, a Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, weighed in on the issue, suggesting that banning the RSS might not be a feasible solution at present. While he acknowledged the concerns raised about the organization's ideology and activities, he emphasized the importance of upholding fundamental rights and democratic principles.

The BJP has strongly criticized Kharge's demand, dismissing his claims as fabricated and politically motivated. They accuse him of deflecting public anger and assert that RSS actively participates in nation-building activities. BJP leaders have slammed the minister and actively participate in all nation-building activities undertaken by the RSS.

The Karnataka High Court has recently paused the Congress government's order on public gatherings amid the tussle with the RSS.

Kharge remains firm in his stance, asserting that he will not be silenced by threats or personal attacks. He advocates for a society founded on equality, reason, and compassion, inspired by the principles of Buddha, Basavanna, and Babasaheb Ambedkar. He believes it is time to "purge this nation of the most dangerous viRuSS".

The debate over banning RSS activities raises important questions about freedom of expression, the role of organizations in shaping public discourse, and the balance between individual rights and societal harmony. As the Karnataka government considers its options, the issue is likely to remain a subject of intense political and social discussion.
