The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his recent remarks concerning the Indian armed forces and "Operation Sindoor," accusing him of aligning with Pakistan's narrative and insulting the military. The controversy erupted following Reddy's comments made during a by-poll rally in Jubilee Hills.
During the rally, CM Reddy reportedly stated, "when Pakistan kicked us and we didn't retaliate, and now they say that in Jubilee Hills they'll throw bombs at us, this is the situation of BJP parties". These statements have drawn strong condemnation from BJP leaders, including Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who have demanded an unconditional apology from the Chief Minister.
Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao also criticized Reddy's remarks, asserting that the narratives of the Congress party and Pakistan sound the same. Rao questioned why the Congress's and Pakistan's narratives consistently align, referencing past incidents such as Congress MP Imran Masood allegedly mocking a previous surgical strike and Sam Pitroda expressing feeling at home in Pakistan.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar strongly condemned Reddy's remarks, stating that the Chief Minister used derogatory language and insulted the armed forces. Kumar emphasized that Operation Sindoor involved the courageous destruction of terror camps in Pakistan and that every street in India echoes with pride for the soldiers' courage. He called for an unconditional apology from Reddy to the people of India and the soldiers who risked their lives for the nation.
The BJP has also filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against Reddy, alleging "objectionable and inflammatory remarks" on Operation Sindoor during the election campaign for the Jubilee Hills bye-elections. The complaint states that Reddy made false claims that "India failed to bomb them (Pakistan)," which is deeply insulting to the armed forces.
Furthermore, the BJP has accused Reddy of threatening and blackmailing voters in the Jubilee Hills constituency. According to the complaint, Reddy allegedly stated that if voters did not support the Congress party, he would ensure the withdrawal of several welfare schemes, including Sanna Biyyam (fine rice), 200 units of free electricity, issuance of ration cards, and free bus travel for women. The BJP argues that these statements violate the Model Code of Conduct and Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines, constituting blackmail, coercion, intimidation, and undue influence over voters.
Operation Sindoor was reportedly launched in May 2025, following a terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the death of 26 civilians. The Indian Armed Forces then carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
The Jubilee Hills assembly by-election is scheduled for November 11, with vote counting on November 14. The BJP's criticism of Revanth Reddy's remarks underscores the heightened political tensions surrounding the by-election and the broader debate over national security and foreign policy.
