Google Maps has launched 10 new features in India, integrating advanced AI models and India-first features to make daily commuting more intuitive and safer. The updates, announced on Thursday, November 6, 2025, include conversational Gemini integration, proactive alerts, and easier travel management, and will be available for both Android and iOS users.
One of the most significant updates is the integration of Gemini AI, offering a conversational, hands-free driving experience. Users can now interact with Google Maps using voice commands to find nearby petrol pumps, inquire about parking availability, or navigate to a restaurant. Gemini can also summarize information for easy access and connect to other apps, such as Gmail and Calendar, with user permission, to add reminders or calendar events linked to a location. This feature marks one of the biggest AI integrations into Maps in India so far.
Google Maps is also introducing enhanced safety and disruption alerts. In partnership with government authorities, Maps will now provide accident-prone area alerts, visually and audibly warning users as they approach such zones. This feature is rolling out in areas like Gurugram, Cyberabad in Hyderabad, Chandigarh, and Faridabad. Additionally, Maps will display official speed limits for roads, sourced from local traffic authorities, next to the speedometer. This feature will initially cover nine cities, including Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Hyderabad (including Cyberabad), Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Noida. Proactive traffic alerts will also notify users about major delays and disruptions, even when they are not actively navigating, starting with key routes in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
For two-wheeler riders, who make up a large portion of the Indian market, Google Maps is introducing customizable "Navatars". Users can now personalize their navigation icon by choosing from different two-wheeler types, such as motorbikes, sports bikes, or scooters, and eight colors. Additionally, building on a previous India-first flyover feature, Maps will now offer clearer, hands-free audio guidance in nine Indian languages to help users confidently navigate complex flyover maneuvers.
To improve travel management, Google Maps will now allow users to access their metro tickets via Google Wallet. Users can save purchased tickets directly to Google Wallet and access them from Maps when needed.
Furthermore, Google is partnering with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to provide near real-time information on road closures, repairs, and services along national highways. This includes updates on rest stops, eateries, and other amenities, helping highway travelers plan more efficiently.
Google Maps is also bringing Proactive Local Tips to India. Powered by Gemini, this feature provides tips about destinations and routes, keeping users updated on places of attraction and local businesses. This builds on the Inspirations feature that was introduced in November 2024. Maps can now answer questions about places using data such as reviews, photos, and details, eliminating the need to switch apps while researching or navigating.
Lalitha Ramani, General Manager, Google Maps, India, stated that Google's approach in India has always been to combine leading AI technologies with a deep, local understanding. She added that these updates embody Google's ongoing commitment to building a map that is truly for India.
