Lakhisarai, Bihar – The battle for the Lakhisarai Assembly seat has turned into a nail-biting contest, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC), and the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) locked in a fierce fight. As the votes are counted on November 14, 2025, the political landscape of this key constituency hangs in the balance.

Lakhisarai, constituency number 168, is a General seat under the Munger Lok Sabha constituency. Polling occurred on November 6, 2025. The constituency has a diverse electorate and plays a crucial role in Bihar's governance. The results here are significant, often shaping the state's political landscape due to the intense battles between major parties.

The BJP has held a strong position in Lakhisarai, winning the seat five times since it became a separate Assembly constituency in 1977. Senior BJP leader and current Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Vijay Kumar Sinha, is the incumbent MLA. Sinha is seeking a fourth consecutive term, having won in 2010, 2015, and 2020. He previously served as the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from November 2020 to August 2022. In the 2020 elections, Sinha won by a margin of 10,483 votes against INC's Amaresh Kumar. In 2015, he won by 6,556 votes.

Vijay Kumar Sinha's main challengers are Amaresh Kumar from the Congress and Suraj Kumar from the Jan Suraaj Party. Amaresh Kumar, who was the runner-up in the 2020 assembly elections, hopes to capitalize on anti-incumbency. Suraj Kumar of the JSP is also looking to make inroads in this election.

Other candidates in the fray include Abhishek Kumar (IND), Praval Kumar (BSP), and several other independent candidates.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rajiv Ranjan Singh of the Janata Dal (United) won the Munger Lok Sabha seat, leading by 43,489 votes in the Lakhisarai segment. This reinforced the BJP-led NDA's stronghold among local voters.

The Lakhisarai constituency had 368,106 registered voters in the 2020 Assembly elections, which increased to 395,117 in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Approximately 15.82 percent of the voters belong to the Scheduled Caste community, while Muslims account for 4.2 percent. It is predominantly a rural seat, with a fair share of 27.38 percent urban electorate. The voter turnout in the recent election was 63.46%.

The constituency is known to be dominated by upper-caste Bhumihars and RSS-aligned voters. Some analysts believe that voters may have an added incentive to support Vijay Kumar Sinha, as he could be a frontrunner for the chief minister's post if the NDA retains power in Bihar. Vijay Kumar Sinha has been a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly from Lakhisarai constituency since 2005.

As the counting progresses, all eyes are on Lakhisarai to see whether Vijay Kumar Sinha will secure another term or if the Congress or Jan Suraaj Party will upset the BJP's stronghold.
