A powerful explosion ripped through the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar on Friday, November 14, 2025, during an inspection of seized explosive material. The blast occurred while a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, accompanied by police personnel and a local Tehsildar, were examining a large quantity of ammonium nitrate that had been confiscated earlier. The ammonium nitrate was seized in connection with a high-profile inter-state terror network case.

The explosion took place during the sampling and inspection process, causing extensive damage to the police station. Several members of the inspection team sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital. The area surrounding the police station has been secured for further examination.

Initial reports suggest that the seized material was part of a larger consignment of explosives recovered in a recent anti-militancy operation. On October 19, multiple Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) posters were discovered at various locations in Bunpora, Nowgam, threatening police and security forces. This led to an investigation that uncovered a "white-collar terror ecosystem" involving radicalized professionals and students in contact with foreign handlers.

The investigation revealed an inter-state militant module of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) outfits, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals, including two doctors. Authorities seized 2,900 kg of IED-making material during the operation. In a joint operation between the J&K Police and Haryana Police, a doctor working in Faridabad was arrested, and 360 kg of inflammable material, suspected to be ammonium nitrate, was recovered. Authorities also seized an assault rifle, a pistol, ammunition, a walkie-talkie, and electric wiring.

The explosion in Nowgam follows a recent terror attack in Delhi and occurred while the police station was actively investigating a terror module. Emergency teams have secured the site for a thorough investigation into the cause and impact of the blast.
