Zubeen Garg Celebrates 53rd Birthday: Fans Gather in Guwahati with Cake | Watch the Celebration

Guwahati, November 18, 2025 – Fans of the late Zubeen Garg gathered outside his Guwahati home in Kahilipara to celebrate what would have been the Assamese singer's 53rd birthday. The occasion was marked with heartfelt tributes, songs, and cake-cutting ceremonies, commemorating the cultural icon's enduring legacy.

At midnight, a large crowd of fans flocked to Garg's residence, eagerly awaiting the cake-cutting. Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, Zubeen's wife, Garima Saikia Garg, joined the fans in their homage. The celebration was filled with emotional moments as fans sang Zubeen's popular songs and shared memories of the artist. Some fans brought cakes designed in the shape of a guitar. The atmosphere was further enlivened by the lighting of sky lanterns.

The commemorations continued into the morning, with Garima Garg and Zubeen's father unveiling a statue of the singer at 9 AM. In Bokakhat, 132 organizations united to celebrate Zubeen's birthday, unveiling another statue of the singer. Senior Cabinet Minister and Bokakhat MLA Atul Bora announced the event, emphasizing its aim to foster harmony and collective pride among residents. A special group musical presentation, featuring 53 artists performing Zubeen's most popular compositions, was staged at the Bokakhat Natya Mandir. A Kopou flower was also planted on a 120-year-old Seuj tree in front of the Bokakhat Tourist Lodge, symbolizing love, heritage, and cultural continuity.

Across Assam, various organizations and political parties held events to honor Zubeen Garg. Fans have been visiting Zubeen Kshetra, where the singer was cremated, offering gamosas and flowers, lighting lamps, and singing his songs.

In Kokrajhar, the Bodoland Territorial Council Chief, Hagrama Mohilary, laid the foundation stone for the upcoming Zubeen Garg Park at Illachijhar. The park, spanning nearly 30 bighas along the Gourang River, will feature a statue of the singer and serve as a space for people to gather and celebrate his cultural contributions. Approximately 25,000 fans are expected to perform "Mayabini," one of Zubeen's most beloved songs in both Assamese and Bodo, in a massive group performance. Organizers have submitted the performance to the Asia Book of Records, hoping it will be recognized as a unique tribute.

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) organized a three-day celebration to commemorate Zubeen Garg's 53rd birthday. The celebration began on November 16 with "Rong Tulikar Edin" at Nehru Park. AASU also planted saplings across the state on November 17. A statewide human chain was formed on November 18, followed by the lighting of earthen lamps in the evening. AASU leaders expressed that this birthday was different, with every family in the state mourning.

Manas Robin and Ajay Phukan also paid their respects, participating in the midnight cake-cutting. Robin announced the release of a song titled “Amar Zubeen, Pran'r Zubeen” as a birthday gift for Zubeen Garg. Furthermore, Robin announced a donation of 10,000 rupees to people deployed at Zubeen's memorial site.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, "Some presence fades from sight but shines brighter in memory". The celebrations and tributes demonstrate the deep emotional connection Zubeen Garg had with his fans across Assam and beyond, solidifying his enduring legacy.
