This recognition came during the virtual inauguration of Skyroot Aerospace's Infinity Campus in Hyderabad.
Modi emphasized the pivotal role of young Indians in transforming the space industry since the government opened it to private players. He noted that over 300 space startups, driven primarily by Gen Z, are injecting new hope and dynamism into India's space ambitions. "India's youth puts the nation's interests first," he stated, adding that they are seizing every opportunity with wisdom and determination.
The Prime Minister specifically acknowledged the diverse talents within Gen Z, recognizing the contributions of "Gen Z engineers, Gen Z designers, Gen Z coders, and Gen Z scientists". He highlighted their role in pioneering new technologies across various domains, including propulsion systems, composite materials, rocket stages, and satellite platforms. Modi underscored that these young professionals are venturing into fields that were previously unimaginable, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the space sector.
Skyroot Aerospace, a leading private space company in India founded by IIT graduates and former ISRO scientists, served as the backdrop for Modi's address. The company achieved a historic milestone in November 2022 by launching the Vikram-S, a sub-orbital rocket, becoming the first private Indian entity to send a rocket into space. The newly inaugurated Infinity Campus symbolizes India's forward-looking vision and the power of its youth, according to Modi.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in India's growing appeal as a global investment destination for space technology. He noted the increasing demand for small satellites and the rising launch frequencies, attracting new companies and solidifying space as a strategic asset. He also highlighted India's cost-effective and reliable space capabilities, which have earned the country global recognition and high expectations.
Drawing a contrast to earlier times when India's space program faced resource constraints, Modi recalled the humble beginnings of transporting rocket parts on bicycles. He emphasized that India now possesses one of the world's most reliable launch vehicles, proving that "dreams are achieved by resolve, not resources". He also lauded ISRO for its contributions in propelling the space program forward.
