The Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench (GHCKB) has launched its official mobile application, named "GHCKB App," marking a significant step towards enhancing accessibility, transparency, and citizen-friendliness in the justice delivery system. The launch event occurred on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Bar Room, Kohima.
Justice Ashutosh Kumar, the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, formally launched the application in the presence of Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi and Justice Arun Dev Choudhury, who are Judges of the Gauhati High Court.
In his inaugural address, Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar emphasized that the Kohima Bench is the first High Court in the Northeast region to introduce such an application. He also highlighted that the app was developed entirely in-house by the Kohima Bench ICT team. He commended the ICT team for their work and noted that the Bench has adapted well to IT-driven systems.
Describing the application as "citizen-friendly," Chief Justice Kumar noted that it offers real-time information, simplifies case tracking, and provides convenience for lawyers and litigants. He further emphasized that the app promotes transparency, enabling individuals, even in remote areas, to stay informed about court proceedings. He urged the legal community to fully utilize the app, stating that technology's value is realized through regular adoption. He also mentioned the app's backward compatibility, ensuring usability across various devices.
The GHCKB App offers several key features, including daily cause lists, live streaming of court proceedings, court display boards, real-time case status updates, access to both High Court and district court websites, a notice board, and a WhatsApp channel for updates. The application is currently available for download on the Google Play Store, with an iOS version expected to be released soon.
Ajongba Imchen, NJS, Registrar of the Kohima Bench, welcomed the initiative, stating that the mobile application would serve as a bridge between the Bench, the Bar, and litigants by making essential information easily accessible. He added that it brings case details, orders, cause lists, and other court updates into a unified platform, strengthening transparency and empowering citizens.
A short video presentation demonstrated the app's key features, citing a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report from March 2025 that indicated 95.22% of Indian internet subscribers access the internet via mobile devices, highlighting the importance of mobile apps in delivering timely and reliable information.
