Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a strong directive to the public, urging them to remain vigilant against "infiltrators" and to meticulously verify the identities of individuals before employing them. This call to action comes as the state government intensifies its efforts to crack down on illegal immigrants, particularly those of Rohingya and Bangladeshi origin, who are allegedly residing in Uttar Pradesh without proper documentation.
Adityanath has made it clear that maintaining law and order, ensuring national security, and preserving social harmony are the topmost priorities of his government. He has stated that any activities that disrupt peace or violate the law will not be tolerated. The Chief Minister has directed all District Magistrates (DMs) to identify illegal immigrants within their jurisdictions and to initiate strict action against them, as per established rules.
In line with this directive, temporary detention centers are being established in each district to house illegal immigrants pending verification and deportation to their countries of origin. The state government has assured that the verification process will be conducted fairly and transparently, ensuring that law-abiding residents do not face any inconvenience. However, it has also warned that strict action will be taken against individuals found using fraudulent documents or engaging in suspicious activities.
The Uttar Pradesh police have launched a statewide drive to identify and take action against "infiltrators" and "illegal immigrants". This initiative involves increased surveillance along the Nepal border and in major urban centers such as Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Varanasi. Uttar Pradesh shares an open border with Nepal, which allows free movement of citizens from both countries but necessitates checks on residents of other nationalities.
The government has highlighted that Uttar Pradesh's unique geographical location, bordering eight states, one Union Territory, and Nepal, makes it susceptible to cross-border infiltration. In recent years, there has been an increase in incidents involving infiltration, fake identity documents, and activities that pose a threat to stability in the border regions. The unauthorized settlement of foreign nationals using forged identities presents challenges to law and order, social harmony, and the equitable distribution of public resources.
Adityanath has emphasized that security is the foundation of prosperity and has called on residents to cooperate with authorities and stay alert to protect Uttar Pradesh's social balance and overall security framework. He has instructed officials to provide regular updates on the verification process and ensure that every district remains free of illegal immigrants. The Chief Minister has also urged citizens to verify the identity of individuals before hiring them for domestic or business work.
A week-long special verification drive targeting Bangladeshis, Rohingyas, and other illegal immigrants living in the district has been launched by the Varanasi Police Commissionerate. Teams have been deployed across Varanasi to identify individuals residing in makeshift settlements or working as hawkers without valid documents. The campaign aims to trace those staying illegally and take action under relevant laws.
