The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in five states and one Union Territory, with final rolls expected in February 2026. This decision follows a similar revision announced earlier for Kerala. The extension aims to ensure that all eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls.
The states and Union Territory affected by this extension are Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The ECI made this decision based on requests from the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of these states and the UT.
According to the revised schedule, the enumeration period for Tamil Nadu and Gujarat has been extended until December 14, 2025, and the draft electoral rolls will now be published on December 19, 2025. In Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the enumeration exercise will continue until December 18, 2025, with draft rolls scheduled for release on December 23, 2025. Uttar Pradesh has been granted a 15-day extension, with the enumeration period now ending on December 26, 2025, and the draft rolls to be published on December 31, 2025.
The ECI had initially set the enumeration period for these six states and the Union Territory to conclude on December 11, 2025, with draft rolls to be published on December 16, 2025. For Goa, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan, and West Bengal, the enumeration process will conclude on December 11, 2025, and the draft rolls will be published on December 16, 2025, as scheduled.
The Commission had already revised Kerala's timeline, with the enumeration period ending on December 18, 2025, and the draft roll published on December 23, 2025. The final electoral roll for Kerala will now be released on February 21, 2026, instead of the previously scheduled February 14, 2026.
The ECI urges new electors to fill out Form 6 with the required declaration and submit it to their Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or complete the process online through the ECINet portal or mobile app to get their names included in the Final Electoral Rolls, which will be published in February 2026.
Claims and objections can be filed between December 31, 2025, and January 30, 2026. Authorities will verify enumeration forms and process all claims and objections between December 31, 2025, and February 21, 2026. The final publication of Uttar Pradesh's electoral roll will now be released on February 28, 2026.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa stated that the state had requested an additional two weeks to complete the SIR process systematically and ensure an accurate, up-to-date electoral roll. The extra time is needed for district election officers to re-verify details of deceased, shifted, and absent voters. The ECI has extended Uttar Pradesh's previously announced SIR schedule by 15 days, based on the eligibility date of January 1, 2026, and has issued a revised timeline accordingly.
