General Chauhan Highlights JAI's Role in Shaping India's Future Combat Capabilities and Military Power.

Hyderabad, December 13, 2025 – India's future combat prowess will be defined by "JAI" – Jointness, Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), and Innovation, according to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan. Speaking at the Combined Graduation Parade (CGP) at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, near Hyderabad, General Chauhan emphasized that these three pillars will shape how India fights and prevails in future conflicts.

Addressing the newly commissioned officers, CDS Chauhan stated that they are joining the Indian Air Force (IAF) at a crucial juncture marked by deep transformation, integrated structures, joint operations, and a national pursuit of self-reliance. He stressed that wars "cannot be won by rhetoric, but by purposeful action," and alluded to regional developments characterized by "institutional fragility and reactive adjustments," contrasting them with India's robust institutions, democratic stability, and the unwavering professionalism of its armed forces.

Elaborating on the concept of JAI, General Chauhan explained that Jointness signifies the importance of fighting as one nation and one force. Atmanirbharta, he stated, represents the development of trusted platforms and systems made not only for India but also for the world. Innovation, the third pillar, reflects the critical need to think ahead and stay ahead of the curve. He also noted that "JAI" forms the first word of "Jai Hind".

General Chauhan asserted that war and warfare are undergoing a major revolution, requiring the Defence forces to adapt to the changing environment and embrace reforms to remain ready and relevant. While battles in older domains will remain contested and often brutal, new domains will be smart, swift, and shaped by intellect, innovation, and initiative. He emphasized that mastering these new frontiers is crucial for prevailing in future conflicts.

The CDS highlighted the importance of technology, specifically AI-driven data fusion, man-unmanned teaming, autonomous and unmanned systems, and operations in the cognitive domain, as decisive factors in winning future wars. He also referred to Operation Sindoor as a testament to the IAF's professionalism and emphasized that it must be guided by the principles of JAI. While the intensity of operations may have decreased, Operation Sindoor remains ongoing, highlighting the constant state of operational preparedness required in the current environment.

The Combined Graduation Parade marked the successful completion of pre-commissioning training for flight cadets across various branches of the IAF. General Chauhan reviewed the parade and conferred the President's Commission on the graduating Flight Cadets of the 216 Course. A total of 244 Flight Cadets, including 215 men and 29 women, graduated. The commissioning ceremony included administering oaths to the newly commissioned Flying Officers, who pledged to safeguard the nation's sovereignty and honor.
