Deadly Highway Collisions in Haryana and UP Triggered by Heavy Fog: Video Report on the Tragic Aftermath

Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Grapple with Deadly Highway Collisions Amidst Heavy Fog

Delhi-NCR, December 14, 2025 – A series of major collisions triggered by dense fog disrupted travel and caused multiple injuries on highways in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. The reduced visibility led to pile-ups involving numerous vehicles, primarily on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, also known as the Kundli–Ghaziabad–Palwal (KGP) Expressway, a crucial six-lane corridor connecting parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The incidents occurred on Saturday morning as a thick blanket of smog enveloped the Delhi-NCR region. The KGP Expressway, a 135-kilometer stretch designed to ease congestion in the capital, became a scene of chaos as vehicles collided due to near-zero visibility.

One of the most significant incidents involved a pile-up of over a dozen vehicles on the Noida Expressway. Visuals from the accident site depicted extensive damage, with cars crushed and wedged under trucks, highlighting the severity of the collisions.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate confirmed their presence at the scene and initiated investigations. Authorities are still working to ascertain the exact number of vehicles involved and the total number of injured.

In response to the hazardous conditions, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory, reducing speed limits on major roads and expressways. On the Yamuna Expressway, the maximum speed is now capped at 75 kmph for light motor vehicles and 60 kmph for heavy motor vehicles. Similarly, on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, the speed limit for light motor vehicles is 75 kmph, while heavy motor vehicles are restricted to 50 kmph. These revised speed limits will remain in effect from December 15, 2025, to February 15, 2026.

Two separate accidents were also reported on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway under the Dadri police station area. Three vehicles collided at the Chakrasenpur flyover, while approximately a dozen vehicles were involved in a pile-up at the Samadhipur flyover.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a dense fog alert for the next two mornings in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Residents of Delhi-NCR have been waking up to thick smog, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 449 in Noida's Sector-125, a level categorized as "severe".
