Luthra Brothers' Deportation Nears Completion: Likely Return to India Within 24-48 Hours, Reports Indicate

The Luthra brothers, Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Goa, are likely to be deported back to India within the next 24 to 48 hours. The brothers are wanted in connection with the tragic fire that occurred at their nightclub on December 6, which resulted in the deaths of 25 people.

Following the incident, the Luthra brothers fled to Phuket, Thailand. However, Thai authorities detained them on Thursday, December 11, after an Interpol Blue Corner Notice was issued at the request of Indian law enforcement. The Blue Corner Notice sought information about the brothers in connection with the criminal investigation into the Goa nightclub fire.

Thai Immigration authorities initiated deportation proceedings against the Luthra brothers on Saturday. Phuket Immigration officials revoked their visas, effectively canceling their legal status in Thailand. The brothers were then transferred to the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) in Bangkok.

According to reports, the deportation process is currently underway, with final confirmation on the date, time, and specific flight details pending approval from the Thai authorities. Indian government officials are in contact with their Thai counterparts to finalize the necessary arrangements for the extradition. A joint team of the Goa Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was dispatched to Thailand to bring the brothers back to India, via Delhi.

The Ministry of External Affairs canceled the passports of the Luthras on Tuesday, following a request from the Goa Police. Since their passports were canceled, the Indian embassy will issue emergency travel certificates to facilitate their return.

A local court in Delhi has already rejected the brothers' anticipatory bail plea, in which they claimed they feared being "lynched" in Goa. The brothers had argued that they were apprehended upon landing in India, but the court questioned the maintainability of their plea, noting that they were not within its territorial jurisdiction.

Once back in India, the Luthra brothers will face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligence related to the nightclub fire. The tragic fire at Birch by Romeo Lane claimed the lives of 25 individuals, including five tourists and 20 staff members. The victims included four members of a Delhi family. In the wake of the fire, the Goa government has initiated safety audits and enforcement at entertainment venues. The district administration also demolished part of the Romeo Lane restaurant in Vagator, Goa.
