A shocking incident in Latur, India, has revealed a man's desperate attempt to fake his own death for insurance money, leading to the murder of an innocent individual. The elaborate scheme was exposed through text messages to his girlfriend, ultimately leading to his arrest.
Shivaji Chavan, a resident of Latur, found himself drowning in debt and devised a plan to obtain ₹1 crore (10 million Rupees) from an insurance policy by faking his death. To execute this plan, Chavan allegedly murdered a drunk man. According to police reports, Chavan drove the intoxicated man to a secluded location. He then placed the man in the driver's seat of his car, fastened the seatbelt, and set the vehicle ablaze using matchsticks and plastic bags. To ensure the car was completely destroyed, Chavan left the petrol tank cap open before fleeing the scene.
After setting the car on fire, Chavan traveled to Kolhapur by bus and then to Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg. However, his attempt to disappear was short-lived. Suspicion arose when investigators discovered inconsistencies in the assumed death. Further investigation revealed text messages between Chavan and his girlfriend, which exposed the plot.
The police have arrested Chavan and charged him with murder, destruction of evidence, and other related offenses. This case is a stark reminder of the extreme measures some individuals take for financial gain, and the devastating consequences of such actions. Similar incidents have occurred, such as the case of Ryan Borgwardt, who faked his death to start a new life with a woman he met online. These cases highlight the complexities of human behavior and the importance of thorough investigations.
