PM Modi Accuses Opposition of Shielding Traitors, Undermining EC's Infiltration Blocking Efforts in Assam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Assam on Saturday, December 20, 2025, where he asserted that the Election Commission's (EC) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is aimed at blocking infiltrators from participating in the electoral process. He criticized those he called "deshdrohis" (traitors) for attempting to shield these infiltrators.

Modi accused the Congress party of historically supporting infiltrators, alleging that this has impacted Assam's security and development. He stated that the BJP government is correcting mistakes that Congress has made for decades in the Northeast. He also claimed that Congress gave protection to infiltrators who grabbed forests, threatening the security and identity of Assam.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Northeast as a gateway for India's growth. He said that every state and region of the country has an important role to play in the mission of a developed India. Modi also mentioned Assam's first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bardoloi, as the state's pride, whose statue will inspire current and future generations.

In addition to the rally, Modi inaugurated a new terminal building at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. The Integrated Terminal 2 Building is designed to handle 13.1 million passengers per year and was built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore. He also unveiled an 80-foot statue of Gopinath Bardoloi outside the airport.

Separately, Modi is scheduled to visit West Bengal's Nadia district where he will inaugurate national highway projects and address a public rally amid heightened political tensions over the ongoing SIR exercise in the state. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise is being carried out in haste and that a large number of genuine voters, particularly refugee Hindus, risk disenfranchisement on its account. Modi has accused the TMC of opposing the SIR exercise to protect infiltrators.
