The Minnesota Wild extended their winning streak to seven games with a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday at the Grand Casino Arena. The Wild also set a new franchise record with a 14-game home points streak, going 12-0-2 since November 1.
Matt Boldy led the charge with two goals, while Filip Gustavsson made 28 saves to secure the win for the Wild. Ryan Hartman, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Nico Sturm also contributed to the score. Mats Zuccarello chipped in with two assists. Connor McDavid and Andrew Mangiapane scored for the Oilers, with Calvin Pickard stopping 32 shots.
The Wild got off to a strong start, with Boldy scoring unassisted just a few minutes into the first period. Boldy then scored again on the power play, assisted by Quinn Hughes and Mats Zuccarello, to put the Wild ahead 2-0. The Oilers responded with a goal from Andrew Mangiapane, assisted by Evan Bouchard and Leon Draisaitl, closing the gap to 2-1. Connor McDavid then scored on the power play, assisted by Draisaitl and Zach Hyman, tying the game 2-2. However, the Wild regained the lead before the end of the first period with a goal from Ryan Hartman, assisted by Jake Middleton and Zuccarello, making it 3-2.
The second period remained scoreless, with both Gustavsson and Pickard holding their ground. In the third period, Vladimir Tarasenko scored, assisted by Yakov Trenin, extending the Wild's lead to 4-2. Nico Sturm then sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, assisted by Tarasenko and Marcus Johansson, making the final score 5-2.
The Wild's victory was fueled by the return of several key players from injury, including Mats Zuccarello, Marcus Johansson, Vinnie Hinostroza, Jonas Brodin, and Jake Middleton. However, they were still without Zach Bogosian.
With this win, the Wild's record improves to 22-9-5, while the Oilers fall to 17-13-6. The Wild will continue their homestand against the Colorado Avalanche, while the Oilers will return home to face the Vegas Golden Knights.
