Police Investigate Doctors and Manager Following Patient's Death After Kidney Surgery: An FIR Filed.

Rae Bareli, December 21, 2025 – Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against two doctors and a manager of a private hospital in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, following the death of a 22-year-old man after a kidney stone removal surgery. The FIR alleges medical negligence as the cause of Deepak Gupta's death.

Santosh Kumar Gupta, the deceased's father, filed the complaint at the Kotwali Nagar police station. According to the complaint, Deepak had been suffering from kidney stones and was taken to the private hospital on December 14 after being persuaded by the hospital manager, Ajay Yadav. Initially, doctors indicated that surgery was only necessary for one kidney. However, Santosh Kumar Gupta alleges that both kidneys were operated on during the procedure conducted late at night, without the family's consent.

Following the surgery, Deepak's condition reportedly began to deteriorate. Despite the family's concerns, the doctors allegedly assured them of his recovery. By December 16, his condition had worsened significantly. When the family insisted on moving Deepak to a hospital in Lucknow, they claim the hospital staff attempted to coerce them into taking him to another hospital of their choice in Mohanlalganj. Eventually, Deepak was taken to a private hospital in Lucknow, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was conducted at King George's Medical University (KGMU) on December 17, but the cause of death remains undetermined. Police are also investigating a viral audio clip purportedly featuring a doctor threatening the family.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against surgeon Dr. Dharmveer Singh, private nursing home owner Dr. RP Singh, and hospital manager Ajay Yadav. The charges are under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence), 131 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The complainant has demanded strict legal action against the accused, the seizure of the hospital, and accountability for what he describes as "gross medical negligence and exploitation". Additional Superintendent of Police, Rae Bareli, Sanjeev Sinha, stated that further legal action would be taken based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
