The Ottawa Charge defeated the Minnesota Frost 3-2 in overtime on Sunday at Allstate Arena in Chicago, as part of the PWHL's Takeover Tour. Rookie Sarah Wozniewicz scored her first career goal with just 65 seconds remaining in overtime, securing the victory for the Charge.
The game was a hard-fought battle between the two teams. Ottawa took an early lead in the first period when Ronja Savolainen scored a power-play goal, assisted by Kateřina Mrázová and Jocelyne Larocque. The Frost responded in the second period with a goal from Britta Curl-Salemme, with assists from Kelly Pannek and Mae Batherson, tying the game 1-1. Just before the end of the second, Brianne Jenner found the net for the Charge, putting them ahead 2-1. Assists on Jenner's goal went to Rebecca Leslie and Rory Guilday.
Minnesota fought back in the third period, with Mae Batherson scoring her first career goal on a power play, assisted by Kelly Pannek and Kendall Cooper, to tie the game once again at 2-2. The score remained tied through the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
In the overtime period, both teams battled fiercely. With time running out, Sarah Wozniewicz scored the game-winning goal for Ottawa, assisted by Peyton Hemp, sealing the 3-2 victory for the Charge.
Gwyneth Philips was solid in goal for Ottawa, finishing with 21 saves, including one in overtime. Nicole Hensley made 19 saves for Minnesota, with three of those coming in the extra period.
The Ottawa Charge record is now (1-1-0-5). The Minnesota Frost's record is (3-0-1-2).
The game drew an announced crowd of 7,238.
Looking ahead, Ottawa will face Toronto on Tuesday, while Minnesota will play Vancouver on Saturday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
