A fire erupted in a 23-story residential building in Mumbai's Andheri West on Thursday morning, prompting a swift response from the Mumbai Fire Brigade and other agencies. The incident occurred at Sorrento Tower, located on Veera Desai Road near the Country Club, and was reported to the fire control room around 10:05 am.
Firefighters arrived promptly and declared it a Level-I fire by 10:20 am. The blaze was confined to electrical wiring and components in the shaft between the 10th and 21st floors. It also affected routers, shoe racks, and wooden furniture near ducts on multiple floors. The fire was brought under control around 11:37 am.
Due to heavy smoke logging, several residents were initially stranded on the upper floors. Fire personnel evacuated approximately 30 to 40 residents from the 16th-floor refuge area via the staircase. Additionally, firefighters using breathing apparatus rescued three individuals, including one woman, from a flat on the 15th floor. In total, over 40 residents were safely rescued from the building.
Multiple agencies, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, Adani Electricity, ambulance services, and ward-level civic staff, were mobilized to manage the situation and ensure the safety of residents. At least four fire engines and other essential equipment were deployed to the site. Firefighters focused on rescue and ventilation operations to clear the smoke and assist those stranded on higher floors.
As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or casualties. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
