Starting in January, the Punjab government will launch the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, providing free medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh to every family in the state. This initiative, approved by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, aims to ensure universal healthcare access and alleviate the financial burden on residents.
Under this scheme, Punjab will become the first state in the country to offer cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh for every family. The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna is a flagship health assurance initiative designed to provide financial protection and ensure access to quality healthcare for all eligible residents of Punjab.
The scheme is a significant step towards universal health coverage, entitling each enrolled family to cashless medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh per year. It covers major illnesses, critical care, surgeries, and life-saving treatments at a wide network of government and private hospitals across Punjab and Chandigarh, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services.
The key objectives of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna include ensuring cashless and paperless healthcare at empanelled hospitals and reducing out-of-pocket expenditure on secondary and tertiary healthcare. It also aims to strengthen equitable access to healthcare services across urban and rural areas and provide timely grievance redressal and beneficiary support through digital platforms.
The scheme will cover all expenses, including hospitalization costs, surgeries and medical procedures, ICU and critical care services, diagnostics, medicines, and consumables as per approved packages, as well as pre- and post-hospitalization expenses.
Previously, families could only avail treatment up to Rs 5 lakh, but the limit has now been increased to Rs 10 lakh. Every citizen of Punjab is entitled to free healthcare under this scheme, regardless of whether they are government employees or pensioners, and there will be no income limit. Citizens can avail free treatment at any government hospital or empanelled private hospital under this scheme. The Chief Minister has directed the Health Department to make the necessary arrangements for the smooth launch of the scheme to ensure the well-being of the people.
