In a heartfelt tribute to their father, the late legendary actor Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol are set to host a special screening of his final film, "Ikkis". The screening will take place on Monday, December 29th, in Mumbai. This poignant event is not just a cinematic occasion but also a loving homage from two sons honoring the enduring legacy of their father.
Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24th at the age of 89, remains one of the most iconic and beloved figures in Indian cinema. With a career spanning over six decades, he redefined stardom through his charm, emotional depth, and versatility, leaving an indelible mark on generations of actors and filmmakers.
"Ikkis" marks Dharmendra's last appearance on the big screen and is scheduled to release in theaters on January 1, 2026. The war biopic, directed by Sriram Raghavan and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, is based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, who demonstrated extraordinary courage during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War. Agastya Nanda portrays the role of Khetarpal, while Dharmendra plays his on-screen father, Brigadier M.L. Khetarpal. The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Simar Bhatia in key roles.
The special screening in Mumbai is expected to be a private affair, attended by close family members, friends from the film industry, and specially invited guests who shared a close bond with Dharmendra. Members of the media have also been invited to the occasion. It is anticipated that Sunny and Bobby Deol will address the media and share their reflections on their father for the first time since his passing.
Sriram Raghavan, the director of "Ikkis," shared that Dharmendra had the opportunity to watch the first half of the film in October, and was looking forward to seeing the second half. Raghavan expressed his regret that Dharmendra could not see the completed film.
The Deol family has been actively supporting the film, encouraging fans to experience it in theaters. The film was initially set to release on December 25, 2025, but will now be released on January 1, 2026.
"Ikkis" not only serves as Dharmendra's final cinematic contribution but also as a tribute to the armed forces of India. The film encapsulates the valor and sacrifice of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, a national hero. The Deol family's gesture in holding this special screening emphasizes that legends never truly disappear; they continue to live on through stories, memories, and the love they leave behind.
