Trump Reiterates Claim of Quickly Preventing India-Pakistan War, Despite Skepticism and Lack of Evidence.

Donald Trump has once again asserted that he halted a major conflict between India and Pakistan, a claim he has made nearly 70 times. In a recent interview with Fox News, Trump stated that the two nuclear-armed neighbors were "ready to go at it big" before he intervened. He also claimed that eight planes were shot down during the conflict.

"India, Pakistan were ready to go at it big. And these are two nuclear countries. I got that one stopped," Trump said. He added, "Eight planes were shot down. They were really at it, and I got it stopped. It was a big one". Trump has suggested he deserves a Nobel Prize for stopping not only this conflict, but also several others around the world. "In theory, you should get a Nobel Prize for each war," he stated.

The former president initially made this claim in May 2025, stating on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after talks mediated by Washington. He has repeated this assertion in various settings, including meetings with foreign leaders. Most recently, during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida, Trump claimed to have "ended eight wars," including the India-Pakistan conflict.

However, India has consistently denied any third-party mediation in de-escalating tensions with Pakistan. According to reports, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to a terror attack, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. India maintains that the decision to de-escalate was taken bilaterally through established military and diplomatic channels.

Adding to the controversy, Trump's legal team argued in a U.S. courtroom that reversing his global tariffs could reignite the conflict between India and Pakistan. They claimed that a ceasefire was only achieved after Trump offered both nations trading access with the United States. This argument was presented to defend Trump's tariffs, but it was met with skepticism and ultimately shut down by the court.

While there was indeed a period of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan involving cross-border drone and missile exchanges, the Indian government has refuted Trump's claims of mediation. The U.S. was reportedly speaking to both sides, but India insists that Trump's trade deals were not the reason for the de-escalation. Some reports suggest that India's strikes on Pakistan's military bases were a significant factor in prompting de-escalation.

Despite the repeated denials and lack of corroborating evidence, Trump continues to claim credit for halting the conflict, even exaggerating the scale of the confrontation by claiming eight planes were shot down. Reports indicate that Pakistan claimed to have shot down six Indian jets, while India acknowledged losses without providing specific numbers. Some independent assessments suggest India lost at least four aircraft.
