Teyana Taylor's emotional Golden Globes win: Empowering message for Black women and girls everywhere.

Teyana Taylor delivered a powerful and emotional acceptance speech at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in "One Battle After Another". The singer-actress, visibly moved, took the opportunity to send a message of empowerment to Black women and girls.

Taylor, 37, began her speech with an attention-grabbing reference to her custom Schiaparelli haute couture gown, quipping, "Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Wait until you see my party in the back!". However, she quickly transitioned to a more serious and heartfelt tone, tears welling in her eyes as she thanked her collaborators, director Paul Thomas Anderson (referred to as PTA), and her family. She even made sure her "babies" who were watching from upstairs were paying attention.

The actress beat out other nominees, including Ariana Grande, Emily Blunt, and Elle Fanning.

Taylor then turned her attention to "brown sisters and little brown girls" watching her speech. "Our softness is not a liability," she declared. "Our depth is not debt. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space".

Her words resonated deeply, reflecting her own experiences as a Black woman in Hollywood. In her 2025 ELLE Women in Hollywood cover story, Taylor spoke about the challenges she faced, stating, "The hardest part is being a woman in Hollywood. The even harder part is being a Black woman in Hollywood". Despite these challenges, she expressed optimism about the future, noting, "I do see change happening. I do see more light being shed on women, and I think it's because we're busting through the doors, unapologetically us. We're not giving anybody a choice: you will see us and you will hear us. And if you don't, we're going to make you".

Taylor's win marks a significant moment in her career, which has seen her transition from music to acting in recent years. She has appeared in several major films, including "Coming 2 America," "A Thousand and One," "White Men Can't Jump," "The Book of Clarence," and "Straw". She also recently released a new album, "Escape Room," featuring collaborations with Taraji P. Henson, LaLa Anthony, Niecy Nash, Jill Scott, Issa Rae, and Lucky Daye.
