Amy Poehler triumphed at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 11, 2026, securing the inaugural award for Best Podcast. Poehler's podcast, "Good Hang," earned her the win, beating out a field of competitors including "Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard," "Call Her Daddy," "The Mel Robbins Podcast," NPR's "Up First," and "SmartLess," which features her ex-husband Will Arnett alongside Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes.
The new podcast category was introduced in March 2025 as a way to recognize evolving forms of storytelling. Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne stated that podcasts have become a significant medium for sharing narratives and building communities across borders and generations. The award aims to honor traditional categories while also providing a platform for new voices and formats. Luminate, an analytics firm, determined that a total of 25 podcasts were eligible for consideration, including news-based shows, politically-leaning programs, and true-crime series. Ultimately, the nominees were largely personality-driven shows.
During her acceptance speech, delivered after receiving the award from Snoop Dogg, Poehler quipped, "This is exactly how I pictured it, Snoop [Dogg] giving me the award". She expressed her respect for the podcasting medium and her fellow nominees, with a playful jab at NPR, saying they were "just a bunch of celebs phoning it in" and encouraging them to "try harder". Poehler described "Good Hang's" mission as an "attempt to try to make a very rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter, laughing with people not at them".
Poehler launched "Good Hang" in March 2025 and features conversations with comedians, friends, and famous personalities. Notable guests have included Tina Fey, Rashida Jones, Martin Short, Seth Meyers, and Idris Elba. Backstage after her win, Poehler teased an upcoming guest who had also won an award that evening. She also mentioned that she hoped Meryl Streep or Snoop Dogg would listen to her podcast.
Will Arnett had previously predicted Poehler would win. Poehler attended the awards ceremony with her boyfriend, Joel Lovell.
