Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir detected suspected Pakistani drone activity near the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in the districts of Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch on Sunday evening, January 11, 2026. According to officials, the drones originated from the Pakistan side and returned after briefly hovering over Indian territory. Following these sightings, extensive search operations were launched in the areas.
In the Nowshera sector of Rajouri, army troops fired at a drone spotted near Gania-Kalsian village at approximately 6:35 pm, using medium and light machine guns. Another drone was observed at nearly the same time over Khabbar village in the Teryath area of Rajouri district. This drone, equipped with a blinking light, approached from Dharmsal village in Kalakote before proceeding towards Bharakh.
In Samba district, a drone-like object with a blinking light hovered over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector for several minutes around 7:15 pm. Additionally, another similar object was seen moving from Tain towards Topa in the Mankote sector of Poonch district, along the LoC, at approximately 6:25 pm.
These incidents occurred shortly after the recovery of an arms consignment on Friday night in Paloora village of Ghagwal, near the IB in Samba district. The recovered cache allegedly originated from a Pakistani drone and included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and a grenade.
Heightened vigilance is being maintained along the Line of Control to prevent potential infiltration attempts. Indian armed forces undertook counter-unmanned aerial systems measures, which prompted the drones to return. The repeated sightings of suspected Pakistani drones in sensitive border areas have raised concerns about potential security threats and are under investigation.
