Donald Trump has recently reiterated claims that he "ended eight wars," including a conflict between India and Pakistan, asserting that these nations were on the brink of a major confrontation. Speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania in December 2025, Trump stated he would make a phone call to stop renewed fighting between Thailand and Cambodia, asking 'who else could say' they can stop a war between two powerful countries. Trump's assertions have been met with both support and skepticism.
Trump has repeated the claim nearly 70 times that he stopped the conflict in May between India and Pakistan. He elaborated on his India-Pakistan assertion, saying, "Because some of these wars were going on for 30 years. India, Pakistan were ready to go at it big. And these are two nuclear countries. I got that one stopped. Eight planes were shot down. They were really at it, and I got it stopped. It was a big one". He said that "in theory", one should get a Nobel Prize for stopping each war.
Trump's specific claims regarding the India-Pakistan situation refer to a period in May 2025 when tensions reportedly escalated between the two countries. He stated that the conflict was defused swiftly, preventing further escalation and potential use of nuclear weapons. Trump has also claimed that during a September Oval Office meeting, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif credited him with saving "a minimum of 10 million lives".
However, India has consistently denied any third-party intervention in de-escalating tensions with Pakistan.
In addition to India and Pakistan, Trump has named other conflicts that he claims to have de-escalated, including those between Israel and Hamas, Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Serbia and Kosovo. He also claimed to have stopped inflation, secured the border, and banned "critical race theory" in schools.
Trump's renewed focus on his peacemaking efforts comes as he prepares to meet with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who has offered to share her Nobel Peace Prize with him. Trump has publicly expressed his desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, stating that it would be a "great honour" to accept the award from Machado and that it has been a very big embarrassment to the country of Norway.
