In the lead-up to the release of "Border 2", Sunny Deol, the iconic star of the original 1997 war drama "Border", has been actively engaging in events that celebrate national pride and honor India's armed forces. On January 14, 2026, Deol visited INS Vikrant, India's first indigenously built aircraft carrier at Karwar Naval Base, where he interacted with officers and sailors of the Indian Navy.
Deol shared a selfie on his Instagram account, capturing the spirit of the moment. Dressed in a green shirt, matching dark green trousers, and a black turban, Deol stood against the backdrop of the sea, exuding patriotic fervor. He captioned the post with the words, "Hindustan Meri Jaan…Meri Aan…Meri Shaan…Hindustan . Pride. Honour. Bravery! #INSVikrant #IndianNavy #Border2".
The visit to INS Vikrant is part of a series of promotional events for "Border 2" that have focused on honoring the armed forces. Earlier events included the unveiling of the song "Ghar Kab Aaoge" at Longewala – Tanot near Jaisalmer, in the presence of Army personnel and their families, and the launch of "Jaate Hue Lamhon" at Mumbai's United Services Club, situated within a Navy residential cantonment. These events highlight the film's core message of acknowledging and appreciating the bravery and sacrifices of India's protectors.
"Border 2," a sequel to the 1997 hit "Border," is scheduled to be released on January 23, 2026, coinciding with India's Republic Day weekend. Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J. P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, the film features Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in key roles. The film also stars Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana. Ahan Shetty will be playing the role of a Naval officer.
The film's first poster and release date were revealed on India's 79th Independence Day, with the tagline "Hindustan ke liye ladenge... phir ek baar!". The film is expected to have a runtime of around 200 minutes and is anticipated to receive a U/A certificate, paving the way for a large family audience. The music of "Border 2" is composed by Anu Malik, Mithoon, Vishal Mishra, Sachet–Parampara and Gurmoh, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, Manoj Muntashir, Kumaar, Kausar Munir and Anurag Singh.
Deol has spoken about his decision to be a part of the original "Border," attributing it to the influence of his father, Dharmendra, and his film "Haqeeqat". He also expressed his amazement at the impact "Border" had on young people, inspiring them to join the armed forces.
"Border 2" is presented by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series, in association with J.P. Dutta's J.P. Films. The film intends to honor the legacy of the first installment while appealing to a new generation of viewers.
