Tamang's sudden death at the age of 43 has deeply affected the entertainment industry, particularly his friends and the Gurkha community, for whom he was a source of immense pride.
Chang shared that Tamang was extremely excited about his role in The Battle of Galwan. The two friends had planned to meet in Mumbai along with other friends, a plan they had been postponing for a while. Chang revealed that Tamang had specifically mentioned needing to return for some dubbing work on Galwan.
Tamang, who won hearts after winning Indian Idol Season 3 in 2007, had successfully transitioned into acting, showcasing his versatility as an artist. His performance as the sniper Daniel Acho in Paatal Lok Season 2 was widely appreciated, marking a significant step in his acting career. Chang recalled how Tamang would call him with innocent questions about the audition process and agents when he was auditioning for Paatal Lok. Chang, along with Mahaveer Sir, had encouraged Tamang to pursue the role, recognizing his talent and potential.
Speaking to ANI, Chang mourned the loss, stating that it was a huge loss for everyone, especially the music industry and the Gurkha community. He fondly remembered their time together on Indian Idol 3, emphasizing the sense of pride Tamang brought to the entire Gurkha community. He also added that even during the competition, they never felt like they were competing against him.
After attending Tamang’s funeral in Darjeeling, Chang conveyed the disbelief and shock that he and their batchmates felt upon hearing the news. He expressed his condolences to Tamang's wife and daughter, assuring them of unwavering support. Chang expressed his hope that when Galwan is released, fans will rediscover Tamang's brilliance and give his performance the recognition it deserves.
Prashant Tamang's wife, Martha Aley, clarified that his death was natural and that she was by his side when he passed away in his sleep. Many figures from the entertainment industry and political leaders like BJP MP Raju Bista paid their respects to the late singer. Bista acknowledged Tamang's great work and talent as an artist, further highlighting the impact he had on the community.
