The Supreme Court has declined to hear a plea from the producer of the Vijay-starring film Jana Nayagan, instructing them to instead approach the Madras High Court. The film, which was initially slated for release on January 9, has faced delays in obtaining censor clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
A bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Augustine George Masih presided over the matter on Thursday. The Supreme Court noted that the Madras High Court's Division Bench is already scheduled to address the issue on January 20. KVN Productions, the film's producer, is seeking CBFC certification for Jana Nayagan.
Jana Nayagan marks a significant project for Thalapathy Vijay, as it is expected to be his last acting role before he transitions into a full-time political career. The film's release has been anticipated by fans, adding to the urgency of resolving the certification delays.
The legal proceedings began in the Madras High Court before the producers appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court's decision effectively redirects the case back to the Madras High Court for further consideration. The hearing scheduled for January 20 will be crucial in determining the film's fate and potential release date.
