Varun Dhawan is no stranger to the world of online criticism, and the actor's recent handling of trolls regarding his performance in the song "Ghar Kab Aaoge" from the upcoming film Border 2 has become a masterclass in wit and grace. The film, directed by Anurag Singh and starring Sunny Deol, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh alongside Dhawan, is slated for release on January 23, 2026.
Following the release of "Ghar Kab Aaoge," a section of social media users began questioning Dhawan's acting and screen presence, drawing comparisons to the original Border film. Trolls flooded his Instagram comments with sarcastic remarks and pointed questions. Rather than shying away, Dhawan chose to address the criticism head-on.
Dhawan posted a series of photos on Instagram, dressed in a black suit, where he officially introduced his character, Major Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya, and captioned the post, "Thank you for the love". When one user questioned his acting skills, writing, "Bhai apka acting pe sawal utha raha hai log uske liyeee kya bolega (Bro, people are raising questions on your acting skills. What would you say about that?)," Dhawan responded with a mix of confidence and humor. He replied, "@sahjaan_18 yehi sawaal ne gaana hit karadi sab enjoy kar rahe hain rab di mehar. (This question made the song a hit. Everyone is enjoying it. God is great)".
This witty response quickly garnered attention, with fans applauding his calm and confident tone. Many defended the actor, praising his honesty and light-hearted approach to handling negativity. Comments such as "kya baat hai sir (wow that's great)," "@varundvn bhai acting mein koi kami nahi (there was no flaw in your acting)," and "Yes song is a hit bhai" flooded his post, showcasing the support from his fanbase.
Dhawan's composed attitude was further displayed during an "Ask Me Anything" session on X (formerly Twitter). When a user mocked his appearance, commenting that only his moustache had changed, Dhawan retorted with sarcasm, "No no. I have grown an extra hand as well. Please properly dekhna," leaving fans amused.
This isn't the first time Dhawan has expertly handled online trolls. Back in 2019, he responded to a Twitter user who suggested he should focus on "content-driven films" instead of "masala movies". Dhawan, known for films like October, retorted, "Maybe you should not have Harry Potter as your profile picture when you try to teach people what to do son. Now go to bed".
Furthermore, Nidhi Dutta, daughter of filmmaker J.P. Dutta and the producer of Border 2, has also condemned the trolling directed at Varun Dhawan. She called out what she believes is a "paid smear campaign" against the actor, stating, "Congratulations to all the ANTI NATIONALS THAT CAN PAY TO BRING DOWN AN ACTOR PLAYING A PVC OF THIS COUNTRY. This is YOUR FILM INDIA! Hope the audiences find and shame these people".
Whether this controversy surrounding Border 2 and Dhawan's performance helps or hurts the film remains to be seen. However, his approach to dealing with criticism serves as an example of how to handle negativity with humor, confidence, and a focus on the positive.
