Tragedy in New Jersey: Indian-origin Woman Faces Murder Charges in the Deaths of Her Two Young Sons

In Hillsborough, New Jersey, Priyatharsini Natarajan, a 35-year-old woman of Indian origin, has been arrested and charged with the murder of her two sons, aged 5 and 7. The arrest followed a 911 call made on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m. by an individual, believed to be the children's father, who reported finding his children unconscious upon arriving home from work. According to the Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, the caller stated that his wife "did something to them".

Upon arrival at the Hillsborough home, police officers discovered Natarajan and the children's father. The two boys were found unresponsive in a bedroom, and despite immediate attempts by law enforcement and medical personnel to administer life-saving measures, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Natarajan has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of third-degree possession of a weapon. She is currently being held at the Somerset County Jail awaiting a pretrial detention hearing. The names of the children have not been released. The cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy report.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Natarajan works as a software developer and document composer for Smart Communications’ SmartCOMM platform.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the case.
