Lakshya Sen emerged as the lone Indian standing in the singles competition at the India Open 2026, securing his place in the quarterfinals with a dominant performance. However, the news wasn't all positive for the home crowd as Kidambi Srikanth, H.S. Prannoy, and the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty bowed out of the Super 750 tournament.

Sen, a former champion at the India Open, displayed composure and tactical prowess to defeat Japan's Kenta Nishimoto in straight sets, 21-19, 21-10. After a tight first game, Sen found his rhythm and intensity, dominating the second game and leaving Nishimoto struggling to keep pace. Sen's strong defense and injection of pace proved crucial in securing his victory. He will be the only Indian singles player in the quarterfinals.

The day brought disappointment for other Indian players, with H.S. Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty exiting the tournament.

Kidambi Srikanth faced France's Christo Popov in a hard-fought match that extended to three games. Despite winning the second game, Srikanth ultimately lost to Popov 21-14, 17-21, 21-17.

H.S. Prannoy also suffered a setback, losing to Singapore's Loh Kean Yew in three games. Prannoy won the first game but couldn't maintain the momentum as Loh Kean Yew fought back to win 18-21, 21-19, 21-14.

In a shocking turn of events, the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, seeded third, were defeated by Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa and Kyohei Yamashita. The match was a close affair, with the Japanese pair ultimately prevailing 27–25, 21–23, 21–19. After securing a tight first game, Satwik-Chirag couldn't capitalize, losing the next two games.
