Pednekar plays Rita Ferreira, Mumbai's newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in the Crime Branch. Haunted by her past and grappling with present-day demons, Rita embarks on an investigation of a series of murders that puts her on a collision course with a cold-blooded serial killer. As she hunts the killer, Rita must also confront her inner demons, psychological trauma, and systemic biases within the police force.
"Daldal" is based on Vish Dhamija's bestselling novel, "Bhendi Bazaar". The series is created by Suresh Triveni and directed by Amrit Raj Gupta. It is produced by Abundantia Entertainment, with Vikram Malhotra and Suresh Triveni serving as producers. The writing team includes Triveni, Sreekanth Agneeaswaran, Rohan D'Souza, Priya Saggi, and Hussain Haidry. The series also features Aditya Rawal and Samara Tijori in key roles.
Pednekar has described her character as one of the most challenging roles of her career. She noted that she had to communicate through the smallest physical cues, relying less on dialogues and expressive eyes. Pednekar said her character Rita Ferreira's power lies in restraint. The actress shared that it took months to come out of the character, but it was also deeply satisfying.
